End of Season Picnic and Hike!
Since, as Whidbey Islanders, we are all so busy showing off our lovely area to visitors, the Saturday Club does not meet to walk during July and August.
However, we will have an end-of-season-wrap-up hike and picnic on Saturday, June 30th. There is a lovely entrance into the State Park and Kettles trail system near picnic tables on the beach. We will meet at noon, hike for an hour and a half, and then have a potluck picnic on the beach.
We will include some time for looking back over events of the past year, and recognition of so many of our members who stepped forward to make this past year so full of memorable events, as well as a potluck picnic. Please reach me if you'd like to come along!

Well, we had a great off-Island trip to Port Townsend on June 2nd for National Trails Day. The trail was lovely, and we saw a lot of colorful blooms along the way. Jeannie of the Port Townsend Slowpokes, walked with us and told us about their recent hike near the Elwha where the group had spotted a black bear near the trail the day before! Then, to make this a real "trail day" who should be taking the ferry back with us but our Appalachian through-hiker friend, Scout!
Scout (her trail name) is back in our area before she leads a hike in the Columbia River area. Many of you may recall her emails about her trail adventures on the Appalachan Trail, hiking the entire length from Main to Georgia in 2 segments. It was great to catch up as we headed home on the ferry.
So, here is our calendar for June:
Saturday June 9: We'll head up to Deception Pass and hike under the bridge, and around the lake June 16: a bit in the air right now: We may visit the Tahoma Monastary, as originally planned, or we may have a surprise - stay tuned! June 23: No hike, everyone will probably want to take the Garden Tour June 30: Picnic and hike at the end of Libby Road park
We look forward to seeing you soon!
